Rivermen Announce Ed Hammond as New Broadcast Voice
PEORIA, IL -- The Peoria Rivermen announced today that longtime broadcast voice of Bradley women’s basketball Ed Hammond will be the voice of the Rivermen for the 2026-27 season. Hammond will take over broadcasting duties for all home and select road broadcasts on Mixlr and FloHockey.
“I’m so excited to get back into hockey again,” said Hammond. “This will be my fourth full season calling hockey and second with the Rivermen. I’m excited to get started.”
Hammond, best known for being the voice of Bradley University’s women’s basketball team for the past 24 years, is no stranger to hockey or the Peoria Rivermen. Hammond first called games in 1979 with the Peoria Blades when they were a part of the Continental Hockey League. Hammond then returned to hockey to call Peoria’s 1985 Turner Cup championship against Muskegon in the IHL . Hammond got his first taste for a full season of Rivermen hockey during the 1993-94 campaign during Peoria’s IHL era. Hammond last called Rivermen games in 2014 when filling in for two contests.
In addition to calling contests for the Rivermen, Hammond's hockey experience extends to the Bloomington Prairie Thunder of the Central Hockey League, where he was the team’s broadcaster from 2006-2008. Hammonds also filled in for the legendary broadcaster Bob Chase with the Fort Wayne Komets during the 2009 playoffs.
“We are thrilled to have Eddie back with the Rivermen this season,” said Rivermen President and COO Bart Rogers. “He has been a staple of local broadcasting for decades, and we’re excited to have him with us this year.”
